The National Botanic Garden of Belgium has a long-standing tradition in the study of the mycoflora of central Africa. In 1935 the publication of an illustrated mushroom flora of the Congo started (Flore iconographique des champignons du Congo). Seventeen fascicles were published until 1970. In 1972 the title changed to Flore illustrée des champignons d'Afrique centrale. From fascicle 10 to 17, the keys of this flora were translated in English to broaden the use of it. That's why the Flore illustrée des champignons d'Afrique centrale has been replaced by The Fungus Flora of Tropical Africa in 2007.
