Winter

Cosy winter terrace in the Botanic Garden. Come and enjoy a warming drink on the Orangery terrace every Sunday. After the tropical temperatures of the Plant Palace and an invigorating walk through the wintry domain, mulled wine, twinkling Christmas lights and a crackling wood fire will make your visit complete. Every Sunday from 14h till 16h

16th January - 20th March 2012

Antarctica, a polar Eden: One of the Botanic Garden’s researchers Dr. Bart Van de Vijver often works in the South Pole region and more specifically on Livingston Island. His crystal clear photographs of the local plants and animals reveal the surprising beauty of this unknown and unspoiled region. The exhibition is exceptionally closed on 21st and 22nd April. We apologise for any inconvenience. 18 february - 2 april 2012

Bonsai exhibition: 101 pocket sized trees. To celebrate their 35th anniversary the ‘Vlaamse Bonsai Vereniging’ exhibits more than one hundred of their most beautiful bonsai trees. Bonsai master Marc Noelanders will teach a master class and there are also permanent demonstrations for beginners 6 - 15 April 2012

Zapped on the soft shoulder of the road. Artist Jos Poel creates stylized high definition life size prints of indigenous wild plants. The graphic beauty of bishop’s lace or wood club-rush will pleasantly surprise you! The prints are exhibited in and around the Orangery tavern..

12 May - 28th October 2012

1st European Fascination of Plants Day. The European Plant Science Organization (EPSO) groups more than 200 scientific institutes and has officially decreed the 18th of May 2012 as the first European Fascination of Plants Day. This day the Garden stays open late and offers free guided tours. Come and discover carnivorous plants, night flowering giant water lilies and the giant asparagus 18th May 2012
Plant and flower songs. On Sunday 27 May the Castle will provide the splendid backdrop for the Meise based choir Helicante, conducted by Ivo Jacobs, which will give a spring recital with songs entirely based on plants and flowers. The choir will sing classics like ‘Les fleurs et les arbres’ by Camille Saint Saëns or the ‘Mailied’ by Mendelssohn will be sung, but also more unknown pieces like ‘Ce moys de may’ by the sixteenth century composer Clément Janequin. Sunday, 27th May, at 14.30, 15.30 and 15.00 for a cappella concerts of about 20 min. 27th May 2012, at 14.30, 15.30 and 15.00

Soul growth : With his circus troupe “Cirque vegetal” the French circus performer and landscape designer Lucas David has created a unique performance inspired by the Plant Kingdom. Without words the ‘Tree man’, balancing on stilts like a mangrove and the ‘Moss woman’, working with techniques Japanese Butoh theater the lead the spectator into a vegetal universe where slowness and immobility are transformed into movement.
In collaboration with ‘De Muze van Meise’ and ‘De Zandloper’ (Wemmel)
21-24th September
Autumn Leaves: Artist and photographer Roel Jacobs us fascinated by trees. In 2010 he convinced the Middelheimmuseum to incorporate a living sculpture, a young tree in their collections as future monument. His photographic installations, based on the most brilliant autumn hues are a celebration of the beauty and the diversity of trees. 8th September - 2th December 2012
